World Champions! (7th May 2014)

'World Champions' Meeting

On a bright beautiful Saturday morning on 7th of May, at approximately 9am, the crowds gathered in Wisma ELM's Level 1 yet again to witness another fun- filled and enlightening HELP University's Toastmasters meeting.

After the meeting was caled to order by our Sergeant-at-arms (SAA) of the day, Ahmad, the crowd was invoked by an opening acting presidential speech by the club's immediate past, past, past, past president, Bryan Wong, CC, CL who spoke about perseverance to succeed and, as many already know, great glory does not come easy.

Proceeding this, the usual introduction of guests and role player's roles by the Toastmaster of the day, Ahmad were done alongside every audience member breaking the ice by answering the question of the day set by him "Would achieving success require more intellect or social skills?"

Then the table topics session commences with Jo Ping asking really, really deep questions that got every volunteer thinking. Kudos to her for volunteering herself for the role for the first time, a very bold step for someone who is early in her Toastmasters' journey.

Afterwards, the prepared speeches session consisted of Chia Chun, Dheeno and Victor Ong, who is from KL Advanced club, who gave CC2 and CC6 speech projects. Chia Chun shared his insights on computer virus softwares and how to avoid them, Dheeno gave an uplifting motivational speech on making right decisions and Victor on disallowing our inner demons to catch up with us!

Nearing the end we have our usual and unique, evaluation session. Bryan gave his remarks to Chia Chun on improving speech body, structure and flow to allow easier comprehension and retention by audience. Victor applauded Dheeno on his well performed speech, and Jian Hao, from University Malaya Toastmaster's Club who acknowledged Victor's long experience in Toastmasters and also some improvements to further add on to his speaking skills.

To conclude the day, awards were given to the best table topic speaker; Jian Hao,and best prepared speech speaker and evaluator prizes both went to Victor Ong! Before everyone parted ways, there was socializing all over and everybody got to know each other and make new friends who surely will be so till the distant future, while also enjoying the sweet Milo drinks prepared by the club. It was a great morning spent with each other.

Greek Mythology Themed Meeting - 9th April 2016

The meeting kicked off with the SAA Jo Ping calling order to the meeting. She then invited our president Vincent Sar up to give his presidential opening address. Then, it was the Toastmaster of the Morning (Yours Truly) to step up and facilitate the meeting. As usual, the guests and members introduced themselves, while telling what they would do if they had powers of a Greek God or any God if they weren't familiar with the Greek Gods. The answers varied from helping remove poverty, to being able not to go to the gym as guests became creative with their answers.

Proceeding with the meeting, humour master and table topic master Mas Mahathir from MII TMC shared his mischievous adventure during primary school, where he ran across a prohibited field. He then went on and introduced the table topics for the day which proved very amusing for both audience and speakers, varying from a date with Medusa, fated weapon against hydra and much more.

After the break, the meeting then went on with the prepared speech session, which had the lineup of Dheeno, Johny and Marlena. 

First up, Johny and his speech "Anything, Anyplace, Anytime" , where he stresses the importance of  commitment and how it can get you far in life.

Next up, Dheeno came on with "Being Impactful". This speech reached out to the audience on how important a good teacher is and what it means to be a good teacher and the benefits that both parties (teacher and students) get.

Finally, we have Marlena from MII TMC with her practice speech for the Division J contest. She talked about the secrets of happiness and how it is not as simple as it seems.

The General Evaluator then was called up to conduct the evaluation reports. The evaluators for the speakers came up and gave  helpful advice and encouragement to the speakers. Seeing as Marlena's speech was subjected to open evaluation, everyone had a chance to have a say in her speech. Finally, the technical reports concluded the evaluation session.

We then have the presentation awards which Johny took it by storm, winning both best table topics and prepared speech speaker.

The meeting then adjourned with special guest, Division J Director Jacy Wee giving her sharings on how we shouldn't wait for an opportunity to approach us, but to pounce on it once it presents itself. She also mentioned how beneficial it is for us to put ourselves in situations that we are uncomfortable with to strengthen ourselves.

Alien Themed Meeting : 26th March 2016

The meeting commenced with the opening address by Vice President of Membership, Abigail Gan.

We then proceed to the Toastmaster of the Morning, Simon Peter. With his charming charisma and seductive wig, He kicked things off by allowing the introduction of members and guests. The questions of the day were what Toastmasters mean to them and what aliens mean to them.

Adding to the flow of things, humour master Bryan Wong stepped up and discussed different generations of music and how the old and new generations vary in terms of beats and culture, Assuming it was intentional, the silent phones law was broken as his phone disrupted his speech and using his quick wit, uses his alarm tone to his advantage by smoothly relating it to his speech.

Keeping up the tempo of the meeting,  Bryan Wong again rose to the occasion as table topics master and prepared several interesting topics regarding aliens and the supernatural.

Firstly, we have Samuel talking about how having an alien girlfriend can be pretty cool as he gets a lot of benefits (not that kind of benefits, you filthy minded person).

Next up, Jo Peng was given a dilemma between Batman and Superman, having to decide who would win in a battle. (Really, she could've just watched the movie to find out). However , ultimately she sided with the rich and resourceful Batman, it's safe to say that this topic is very debatable and some members weren't exactly on board with her views.

Enthusiastic guest Dhanvi went up to share how he had to listen to his father talking about many different conspiracies of the existence of aliens.

 Logan came up and shared the best superpower is being to materialise any ideas that we have and the ultimate weakness is that when we don't believe ourselves. (Which in truth seemed it can be both a superpower and a valuable lesson)

Veteran Paul Tan showed his prowess and spoke about becoming an alien. If he were to be an alien, he would be a positive and highly encouraging alien.

Finally, fellow toastmaster Chia-Chun spoke about his favourite superhero, Batman ( GO TEAM BATMAN!!!!), and how he would have crushed superman if he wanted to.

With table topics speaking concluded, Table Topics Evaluator, Belinda, gave her thorough report on the speakers, encouraging them to speak more and giving them constructive feedback.

Before the meeting pauses for a break, the induction of the New Exco initiated by the Area Director J1, Gerald Peter, The previous exco team was discharged, and the new exco team rise up. The tiny gavel definitely made it hard for the new exco team to keep a straight face.

The president then gave his speech and his appreciation for his new exco team.

After a brief break, the meeting continued with the prepared speeches.

Firstly, we have Abigail Gan with her first CC, "Me". She talked about how her early life she was sheltered from the world and how that affected her life as she was growing up.

Then, we have Mahathir from MII TMC with his speech "What are the Chances", talking about the steps to getting your crush or in his words, 'victim'.

Finally, we have John Choo with his CC #5, "In The Minds of Angelic Furballs". He elaborates on the psychology of dogs and how dogs have unique relationships with human beings.

The evaluators of the speakers were then called upon to give their reports, giving encouraging comments and constructive feedback to help speakers improve.

After the evaluations, the technical reports were given by the Ah counter, grammarian and timer.

The general evaluator then gave her report on her thoughts of the meeting.

After, the presentation of awards commenced.

Best speech: Mahathir, (the wig continues to make its appearance)

The meeting then concluded with a presidential closing address.

Everyone is all smiles after the meeting.
