23rd of July: Evaluation Time

This meeting was a special one, as it was not the same as our usual meeting. This time, we were focused more on the "after-speech session", which is the evaluation part due to the coming Evaluation Contest. Firstly, we had a session on learning how to improve our evaluation skills.

From Marlena, the president of MII Toastmasters Club, we have learnt that being an evaluator, we should be encouraging and not merely attacking on the weaknesses of the speaker. Also, she mentioned that a speech should always have a good organisation, hence we must have our opening, body and conclusion for our speech evaluation.

Next, we had Mohamad to teach us about the 4S, which is Style, Substance, Subject and Structure. By becoming an evaluator of a speaker, we should always listen to them with 100% attention. Not to mention that we are the evaluator, but simply as a listener or audience, we should also pay our attention while the speaker is speaking as a sign of respect. Last but not least, it is important that an evaluator must stay confident when speaking.

After that, we had everyone to practise evaluating by evaluating Jonathan, our speaker of the day. His speech mentioned Child Bearing Stimulation (CBS). He thought that it should be a mandatory for every men to go through this process. Every members were proactive to learn, as they tried to apply what they have learnt from the two experienced toastmasters into their evaluation.

Then, we had an open evaluation for all the evaluators that had spoken up front. This was an interesting meeting, as we learn not only to deliver a speech well, but also to evaluate self as well as others' speeches and to learn from mistakes. The meeting ended with a happy group photo.

Once again, gracias to everyone who had attended our evaluation meeting.
All of us had a fun time learning, and we hope that you can enjoy the meeting with us too!

16th of July: Supernatural

The meeting kicked off with an announcement, about the Speech Craft which is on 30th of July 2016 at HELP Subang 2 campus, as well as the Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest that will be held on 13th of August 2016. If anyone is interested in knowing more details, kindly contact us!

After the introduction of role players and guests, there was a question for everyone, which was "Your understanding on the sentence 'Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.' from Sun Tzu, The Art of War". There were plenty of answers, such as "It is more like a business strategy" from Jonathan, "Strike whenever there is an opportunity" from Mahathir, and "To keep plans hidden and fall like a thunderbolt to hide from his parents" from our humorous speaker, Stanley.

Next, Nedsome had his humorous speech delivered. He talked about a story between a talking frog and an engineering student, which had us all laughing in the end.

As for table topics, Chia Chun, our table topics master of the day came up with some interesting questions. Mark and Jia You talked about never wanting to have a supernatural power; Ethan asked us to become someone beyond who we are; Stanley made us know the differences between vampire and zombie; Jony talked about the fear towards supernatural; while Mahathir had chosen an interesting topic, which was "how to stop animal illegal hunting if you are werewolves". He finished his speech with a message, which is to end animal cruelty.

Next, we had Joshua with his invocation speech. He said that toastmasters represent the voice of millions, which is why we should join toastmasters and become one of the voices of the world.

As for our prepared speech session, we had Simon with his CC#6 speech entitled "Fifty shades of yellow", talking about the real life of a Pikachu. Our second speaker, Jonathan had his CC#8 speech delivered, which was about cancer treatment, chemotherapy, metastasis and others. Vincent, the ACB#1 speaker talked about the art of selling, which include Belief System, Prospecting, Rapport, Sales Presentation, Objection and most importantly, Closing.

We thank you everyone for joining the party yesterday! No doubt, we look forward to meet everyone again in the next meeting, gracias! And of course, as usual, we had our group photo before the end of the meeting. Cheeeeeese!
